How mondayisation works in NZ
Mondayisation is the public holiday transfer rule in New Zealand. If certain holidays fall on Saturday or Sunday, eligible employees can observe the holiday on Monday (or Tuesday for New Year sequence cases).
Which holidays can be transferred?
Waitangi Day and Anzac Day are mondayised when they fall on weekends. New Year and Christmas-related holidays also have transfer mechanics.
Who receives the mondayised day?
Eligibility depends on whether the holiday is an otherwise working day for the employee. Employment agreements and payroll settings matter.
Why it matters
Mondayisation affects leave planning, staffing, and payroll compliance. Check your region and contract terms before scheduling shifts.
